Kavita & Lalit Bahl Smart Bridge frame raised

On Saturday, October 17, 2020, the frame for the smart bridge connecting Newmark Civil Engineering Laboratory and the new Hydrosystems Laboratory construction was lifted into place. The separate bridge sections, which had been assembled previously on the ground, were raised in turn and joined in the center. When finished, the Kavita and Lalit Bahl Smart Bridge will be a comfortable space for students to study or relax between classes, and will be fully instrumented to make it a teaching tool and showcase for the latest infrastructure monitoring technology – not to mention a convenient way to move between the buildings.

Construction continues on the new building, though delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic have put the opening behind schedule. The new classrooms/labs will be available for use in Fall 2021 and the department will celebrate the opening with a campus event when it is safe to do so. As soon as a new date is set for the grand opening it will be shared with all faculty, staff, alumni and friends.
